EML3 Tooling Schedule

http:// ganesh .physics. lsa . umich . edu /~atlas/ems4/ems4.html

One of the reasons for EMS4 re -

tooling took 5 weeks:

-- We found both angle combs

had ‘bow’ (30 microns)

-- Understanding the bow, and

fixing them took one week.

Precision measurement and

survey must be done very

carefully, the iteration process

To setup combs need enough

time

UM EML3 re - tooling schedule:

Jan. 8 – Feb. 1 (4 weeks)

We will make our best effort to

Finish the re - tooling earlier

EML3 Tooling Plan

Working plan for EML3 tooling

Goal: accuracy ~ 10 microns,

EML3 production start: Feb. 4, 2002

EMS4 tube assembly finish date: Dec. 17, 2001

Wiring station setup for EML3 series schedule:

Dec. 18 – Dec. 24, 2001

- Re - setup the tube production wiring station

- Re - setup the tube test stations

- Modify the wiring online control software

EML3 Tooling Plan

Chamber assembly tooling work before

Christmas:

- Prepare the 14 deg. Combs (glue feet, survey

profile, attach vacuum bars)

- Re - build the EML3 (14 deg) stiff - back parts &

associate OPS/RASNIK system

- Re - setup the EML3 spacer frame assembly table

(100 microns flatness)

- Re - machine all the clamping bars

- Machine all the in - plane alignment parts

- Re - build the large 14 deg. Chamber carts (4)

- Re - build the gas - bar assembly station

EML3 Tooling Plan

Re - setup the EML3 tooling (1/8/02 - 2/1/02)

- Final EMS4 comb survey (before dismount them)

- Granite table survey (tilt meter & BCAL)

- Assemble the stiffback frame (with 5 panels) and optics

on granite table

- OPS calibration on granite table

- Re - setup and align 9 combs on the granite table (4 angle

ones, 5 straight ones)

- Measure the alignment, and the comb heights

- Re - build the comb vacuum distribution system, and

perform the vacuum test

- Setup the sphere blocks on granite table

- Perform stiffback – sphere block test, take OPS

‘reference’ data for each layer

- Final precision measurements on combs and table

- Setup the PMO towers, and perform the calibrations

- Modify the GLUE, OPS, PMO, INPLAN software

- Dry run for EML3 assembly
